RS3: p2w so everyone quit and I loved RS2 much more than and I do osrs today. Project Gordon: still in development and wouldn't call it ready to launch Tibia: haven't checked that but I'll do that now. I'm excited to see where TR goes, as it seems to be following a very similar path just with some updated combat mechanics (that don't require 4 toolbars filled with skills and attacks). or just hang out in edgeville selling potions and buying herbs to the PKers and others. You could spend your time exploring the entire world. The continued development via the addition of minigames and new themed zones from 2004-2008 continued to add the "optional complexity" that added depth without requiring it. I would say that was the other side of complexity imo. The tutorial blitzed you through the basics of a few skills and then dropped you in a world with a LOT going on. Runescape (OSRS), to the new player, felt like one of the easiest things to just jump in to and start playing. is quoted as having said, “I would not give a fig for the simplicity this side of complexity, but I would give my life for the simplicity on the other side of complexity.” I've quit RS3 a while back, and lately Im burnt out on osrs atm in anticipation of the return of Soul Wars. Why has no other company/developers tried to also use this model? The only one i know of that is even in development is r/TitanReach who want a similar model but with action-combat. In short, they made the journey to endgame, the point of the game, rather than the endgame itself (although there is more of a push in recent years for endgame content). It isn't just "you level your combat to max, and crafting is a side task you can do". Instead of a singular level, they use multiple different skills to determine your combat level and what you can do in the game. RS took a different perspective to MMO systems than other than the typical GCD/ability-based, mono-stat leveling system. But to this day, RS (particularly OSRS) is still one of the most popular MMO's on the market. To put it simply, many companys have copied WoW's model when it comes MMORPG's (Holy trinity, action-bar, vertical progression, mono-leveling system).
